Aberdeen fc transfer updates and rumours

Morning Dons fans, Well another season over and more disappointment to deal with but plenty to look forward to next season. Let's look at the ins and outs so far and any rumors I've heard on the net and elsewhere.

We all know the players who have been shown the door to Todders include Gavin Ray, Rob Milsom, Rory Fallon, Isac Osbourne, Gary Naysmith, Stephen Hughes, and Mitch Megginson amongst others. All in all Derek McInnes had ditched 12 players and given big Josh Magennis a new 1 year deal.
By far the best piece of business the new manager has done is to extend Niall McGinn's contract. The prolific Irishman has signed a 2 year extension to his current contract and is eying silverware with the Dons next season.

Yesterday we found out that Dundee Utd midfielder Willo Flood has signed and according to a source of mine Barry Robson has also signed but it's been kept quiet until next week. If the info is true McInnes has made 2 very strong signings that will definately help to strengthen the starting 11.
Other rumours I have heard have seen players like Craig Gordon, Kevin McNaughton, David Goodwillie  and even Michael Higdon on there way to todders.
So there are plenty of rumours and so far just 2 actual contract extensions and 1 confirmed new addition but in the weeks ahead I think we could be in for a few surprises.

Let's just hope that next season is the one where the Dons end the drought and add some new silverware to the trophy cabinet.

A LOOK AHEAD TO THE NEW SEASON

This is my first post for some time but I am  back and eager to get the new season started. Aberdeen FC have  already kicked of the pre-season and have beat Arbroath 5-1 and had a shocking defeat to division  3 side  Elgin City. As you all know I am an optimist so let's look at the positives. The Dons have signed ex Inverness Caley winger Jonny Hayes who will provide pace and creativity in wide areas once he settles in. We have also signed Niall McGinn who looked really quick in the short time we saw him at Arbroath and yesterday we found out  that Gary Naysmith will join the squad in Germany.

The ex hearts and Everton left back has  also said he will try his best to win a permenant deal with the Dons. Aberdeen play there  first game in Germany tommorow afternoon against VfB Alstatte who are in the German  lower leagues, so let's hope for a win. I still think we need a proven goal scorer but let's get any mistakes out of our systems andstart the new SPL season with a bang. Now that I am back I will be keeping you up to date with all the preseaon tour and all the exitement of the first SPL season without Rangers. It would be great to here from all my followers again so give me a shout guys.

Dons win 4-0 at Todders

Aberdeen v Dunfermline

Aberdeen entertained Dunfermline at Pittodrie last night needing something to kick start their season. The Dons looked dangerous and hungry for the first time this season and put the newly promoted side to the sword. The Dons first goal came from last seasons top scorer Scott Vernon making it the second of the season for the big man. Dunfermline never looked to be in the game and the Dons went 2-0 up again from a bit of stealthy poaching from Scott Vernon from a Youll Mawene flick on.

The Dons were now looking ready to run away with the match and the went 3-0 up when Fraser Fyvie scored a screamer from 16 yards to claim his first of the season. Aberdeen captain Ricky Foster was inspirational throughout and looked a hugely attacking force for the Dons. Foster played a huge part in tonight's win and in my book has shown that he is definitely captain material for Aberdeen.

The fourth goal was big Scott Vernons hat trick and his fourth of the season which just tied of a perfect night in front of goal for the recently shot shy Dons. The score could have been about 8 or 9 nil but a good performance from the Pars keeper helped to keep the score down. Although we have had a nightmare start to the season we are now up to ninth and are only 3 points behind the Jambos in fourth.

A little bit of fortune and an injection of confidence will hopefully turn our season around. We have 3 huge games coming up against Dundee Utd, Celtic and Rangers at Todders. This result could not have come at a better time and lets hope it gives the Dons a boost to go on a run. European football is still a possibility this season so lets get behind the Dandies and move up the table.

Aberdeen Crash Out Of The Cup Again!!!!

Aberdeen went in to tonight's match against East Fife struggling in the SPL and lacking a serious goal threat. As with many past seasons the Dons went down 0-1 at Todders to supposedly weaker opposition. Rory McArdle pulled it back for the Dons  and Darren Mackie gave Aberdeen the lead with 48 minutes gone. The Dons looked in control but a determined East Fife pushed on to equalise.

East Fife surprisingly went ahead in the 57th minute and the part timers were clearly looking to claim another SPL scalp. It took until the 90th minute when new Aberdeen signing Rory Fallon scored a penalty to take the game in to extra time. In extra time the Dons were all over the second division outfit and should have ran away with the game.

Regardless of the onslaught of pressure from Aberdeen the Fife club held on to take the game in to penalties. Aberdeen eventually went out on penalties with Rory Fallon, Josh Magennis, and Chris Clarke  all missing from the spot. Peter Pawlett, Ricky Foster  and Kari Arnason scored and Gonzalez saved twice but it just wasn't enough to knock out a team we should thrash for fun.

I always to to remain an optimist but looking at the start to the season we have had it could be a long old year. Yet again we have been knocked out of the cup by lower league opposition and  we are currently  sitting 10th in the SPL. I do think the likes of Chalali, Fallon, Vernon and Magennis can get goals but how long do we have to wait for it to happen?

I will never stop supporting my beloved Aberdeen FC but it's getting very painful to watch a once proud club being ripped apart by greed. Stewart Milne and Co go on and on about new investors and moving solving the current problem at the club but he and the board are the ones making the Red Army endure some drab nights at a once bustling Pittodrie.

Please, Please, Please turn things around and give the Red Army something to cheer.

Hibs Match Report And Views Of The Season So Far!!

Aberdeen went to Easter Road yesterday but failed to score in the sixth out of seven SPL games so far this season. The Dons captain Ricky Foster did have a few descent chances and went close a few times but he didn't quite manage to hit the back of the net.  Scott Vernon played as the lone striker but never got to much service, saying that he didn't really look that sharp anyway. Big Josh Magennis, Kari Arnason and substitute Peter Pawlett also went close but the Dons just couldn't get the goal to claim three points.

September really is an important month for the Dons with games we should be taking points out of. We have one new striker and we have also opened talks with Newzealand international Rory Fallon. Surely if we can get Chalali up to match fitness and get him a run in the team along with signing Fallon we can start to build some points and move up the league.

The Dons face Kilmarnock at Pittodrie on Saturday in a game that could see Rory Fallon make his debut. We then have to face East fife in the cup, Motherwell away and Dunfermline at Pittodrie. Staying in the cup is a major priority for the Dons as the team gels. Hopefully if we can keep a good cup run going it will bring a sense of hope to the players and the fans and could even lead us back to Europe next season.

I'm still confident we can turn things round and get our season underway but we are running out of time to get that run of good form going. Come on Aberdeen hit the goal trail and give us Dons fans something to cheer.

Deadline Day Ends With No More Players

Aberdeen ended transfer deadline day with no more players coming in and Michael Paton going on loan to Stockport so the dream of repeating the above is still a long way away. With three young players being shipped out I was sure there was at least one more to come. The Dons had been linked with James McFadden and what ever happened to Rigters?. One more striker was needed to not only create extra competition but also provide some excitement for the fans.

I do think that the current squad will climb the table and all the speculation of relegation battles already is ridiculous. Brown did the right thing by getting the majority of players in early so they would have more time to gel. Only the next 3-4 weeks will tell how the season is going to take shape. With Mohamed Chalali being added to the team along with all of our other new acquisitions I'm sure the Dons will do fine.

I hope Craig Brown is not planning a move for Rangers flop James Beatie who is now a free agent after being dumped by the Huns. Although all of us Dons fans are disappointed with transfer deadline day we need to get behind our team because talk of relegation and constant boo boy antic will not help the situation.

Transfer Deadline Day Is Here!!!!!

Craig Brown and Archie Knox have now had all of the summer transfer window to improve Aberdeen FC for the new season. So far we have seen a number of players leave including Derek Young who I personally think should still be a Dons Player. We have now confirmed the signings of Youll Mawene, Chris Clarke, Issac Osbourne, Kari Arnasson, David Gonzalez, Jason Brown and the newest transfer is Mohamed Chalali.

Now I'll have a look at these players individually and cast my thoughts, let's start from the top. Youll Mawene has had a stop start career so far since joining the Dons as he keeps picking up injuries. When he has played he has looked quite assured apart from the odd mistake but in certain games ( Caley Thistle ) his lack of speed definitely showed. All in all though I think he will be a positive role model to Clark Robertson and some of the other young defenders.

Chris Clarke is a player we all knew before as he was part of the last Aberdeen team to qualify for Europe under Jimmy Calderwood. After a long spell at Plymouth Argyle the midfielder has come back to Todders for a second spell. So far he has only managed one first team start which came against Dundee in the cup which I attended. During the match his first touch seemed lacking and he seemed to have a general lack of fitness. I'm sure if he can stay injury free for a spell he'll be a valuable player for us this season.

Issac Osbourne has been a great signing so far for the Dons. He has kept fit and off the treatment table and has already started to capture a spot in the first team for him self. All the games I have watched Issac in so far he has been the first one in to every tackle, used the ball well  and has seemed a very accomplished player in the middle of the park. The Dons have been missing a middle man with this kind of grit for many season now but I'm think we may have found one in Issac.

Kari Arnasson is the next Don to speak about. The Icelandic midfielder/ defender has been superb since joining the Dons and his experience definitely shows on the pitch. He is good on the ball and can pick out some great passes during the game. He has also hit the woodwork and went close to scoring a number of times so far in the SPL and as we seen in the pre-season he is more than capable of scoring goals as well. Although he is a great player I feel the Dons will struggle to hold on to him after his year contract unless we qualify for Europe.

Former Manchester City keeper David Gonzalez was the man brought in to cover as number 1 for Jamie Langfield who is now back in full training . Gonzalez hasn't really had to much to do and hasn't had any chance with the majority of the goals. Although saying that his blunder at Ibrox last Sunday was one I'm sure he'll try to forget. He has played well in most of the matches I've watched him in but he is another player who is only here to sell him self to other clubs. All in all he is a very talented keeper and I'm sure he will do a good job in his 6 months for the Dons.

The other goal keeper we have acquired is Welsh International Jason Brown. The ex Blackburn Rovers keeper has been froze out so far due to Gonzalez but has performed very well in the matches he has played in. He did have a couple of games in the pre-season where kept clean sheets and I also watched at Pittodrie in the cup against Dundee. In that match he was very vocal and organised the defence well and was very comfortable with handling and stopping shots. I think we have signed a great goal keeping Brown and i think he will definitely challenge for the number 1 jersey.

The last of our summer signings is Algerian under 23 captain Mohamed Chalali. We haven't seen to much of the striker as yet but I watched him on his debut against Dundee. He looked the part when he came off the bench making good runs and showing good bits of skill. He almost grabbed a debut goal as well with a superb volley which just dipped over the bar. I think once he is up to full match fitness and Craig brown gives him a full game he will score goals for the club and also create allot of goals to

We are now on transfer deadline day and one more striker is a must for Dons manager Craig Brown. There was talk of American International Eddie Johnson but the deal appears to have disappeared. The Dons have also been linked with a number of other strikers so it will be interesting to see who will be brought in on the last day. I think we will see at least one more player join the club as Shaughnessy and Low have gone on loan to Forfar and there is talk of Michael Paton also being offered to first division sides.

I always love the last day of the transfer season as there is always a chance that we may bring in someone who can help restore Aberdeen back to there full Glory. Well I guess we can always live in hope ( LOL ). I am confident that the Dons can still turn there season round and climb the table but a last minute striker could help things move allot faster.

Dons Didn't Deserve A 2-0 Defeat!!!!

The Dons went to Ibrox on Sunday having just won 2 games back to back. Surprisingly Aberdeen manager Craig Brown started with Algerian striker Mohamed Chalali who only made the bench. The first didn't really have mush for the Dons to get excited about with Rangers taking the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Steve Davis.

The Aberdeen five man midfield seemed out of place in the first half create any clear cut chances and Rangers seemed to be pretty comfortable. When the Don kicked of the second half it was a different outlook all together. Aberdeen dominated the majority of the second half and went close on a number of occasions.

Vernon, Arnason, and Mawene all went close during the second half but the Dons player who had the best chance was Ricky Foster who hit the bar with a header toward an open net. The chance just showed how unlucky the Dons were. Aberdeen did concede a second in the 90th minute when Colombian keep Gonzalez made a big mistake to allow the Gers in.

The Dons performance was very encouraging and I don't think we will be near the bottom of the league for very long. With word of another new striker on the way things can only get better. With Hibs being our opponents next Sunday it is a must win game which could help to move us up the SPL.

Aberdeen FC v Dundee ( Match Report )

The Dons faced Dundee at Pittodrie tonight in the second round of the Scottish communities league cup. I was sat in the main stand and Todders was pretty empty but I guess that's to be expected on  a Tuesday night and with a lack of form. Aberdeen lined up in a 4-4-2 formation and Craig brown opted to play players out of position again. The Aberdeen fans are dying to see there great club go on a cup run and bring some silverware back to Pittodrie and that started tonight.
Let's hope we can get the job done this year and earn a spot back in Europe.
Jason Brown started in goal for the Dons with a back four of Andy Considine, Kari Arnason, Ryan Jack and captain Ricky foster. The Aberdeen midfield consisted of Chris Clarke who made his first start since rejoining the Dons, Fraser Fyvie, Issac Osbourne and Peter Pawlett. In attack was Josh Magennis and Darren Mackie.  The Aberdeen bench included Scott Vernon, David Gonzalez, Rory McArdle, Youll Mawene and new signing Mohamed Chalali who flew in from Greece this morning.

The Dons got off to a great start and were playing the ball about nicely, Peter Pawlett was creating havoc down the wings and big Josh was putting pressure from the outset on the Dundee defence. The big Welshman's strength seemed to be to much for the first division outfit. Kari Arnason was again outstanding and showed his quality and experience while playing out of position in the Dons defence. I was also impressed with the first full competitive appearance of Jason brown who was very vocal and organised the defence well. he also had a number of good saves when he was called upon and I think he may have a shot at gaining the number 1 jersey.

The dons broke the deadlock on the 17th minute when Peter Pawlett showed great speed and awareness to cut the ball back to Clarke who then found  Mackie who did well to turn and tuck it away. Aberdeen went close a number of other times in the opening spell and looked very comfortable and went in 1-0 at half time. At the start of the second half the dons received a blow when Kari Arnason had to go off after picking up a knock to his leg. Arnason was replaced by Mawene and not long after that Clarke had to be replaced by Chalali.

The Dons did have two other goals disallowed from big Josh Magennis and also captain Ricky Foster. Mohamed Chalali only arrived in the country this morning but when he came on he got in to some great positions, showed good composure on the ball and almost got a goal on his debut. I think he will be a useful player for the dons this season and I think he will be a far better player than Maguire.

My report has made it sound as if it was a walk in the park but it was far from that. Towards the end of the first half and for most of  the second Dundee passed the ball around well and did create some chances. The second half was a nervy one to watch as a Dons fan as Aberdeen took the foot off the pedal and resorted to long balls with little success. Even though we made it harder than it should have been we still managed to scrap a victory which is something we have struggled to do in recent years. Now that we have 2 wins in a row and are scoring goals the rangers game on Sunday will be a good test for my beloved Aberdeen fc.

Let's look forward to the next round of the cup and let's hope we can carry on our winning form and start to climb the league table. COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!

Aberdeen v Dundee ( league cup preview )

Aberdeen will take on Dundee in the League Cup tomorrow night at Pittodrie with a fresh feel of optimism after a win against Caley Thistle at the weekend. The Dons are likely to be without Youll Mawene after he had a slight pull of his hamstring at the weekend and also the star of Saturday's game Rob Milsom with a bit of groin strain. Craig Brown has also confirmed that welsh international Jason Brown will definitely start in goals for the Dons.

The Dons may have one or two other changes from the weekend according to Craig Brown and one of those may be new signing Mohamed Chalali. The Paris born Algerian international will fly back from Greece tomorrow with all of the necessary paperwork and will officially be a Dons player. Craig Brown has said that he may well play the striker at some point during the game so we will get our first glimpse of our newest signing.

Dundee will not make the game easy and we should definitely take it as a walk over. We need to carry on with the winning form of Saturday and start to build a bit of momentum to give us confidence with the Rangers game coming up. If we can get a good cup run and start to move up the league I'm sure those Dons fans who have left the terraces will return. But remember a good fan will stick by his/her team through good and bad so let's get behind the Dons and have a season to remember.

My prediction for tomorrow night will be 3-1 to the Dons but I'll settle for any result that sees the Dandies go through to the next round. COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!

Aberdeen record there first victory of the season!!!

Aberdeen recorded there first win and scored there first goals of the season at Pittodrie today. In an entertaining match the Dons dominated the first half and could have been more than 2-0 up at half time. The first goal came after big Josh made a great run and cut the ball back for Rob Milsom to slot the ball home from close range. The Dons continued to dominate the game and created a multitude of chances giving the Dons fans something to finally cheer about.

The Dons grabbed there second goal of the match after a suspicious decision from Caley thistle in defence /allowed Scott Vernon to go through one on one with Esson and slot the ball home for his first of the season. It was nice to see the Dons full of confidence and passing the well and they went in 2-0 up at half time.

The game was a bit more end to end in the second half with Caley coming more in to the game making things a bit more nervy for the home fans. Chris Clarke made his first appearance for the Dons but was rarely in the game and Mitch Megginson also came off the bench and caused quite a few problems. Caley eventually got there goal with Ritchie Foran scoring after Mawene made a blunder but all in all the Dons looked good and were worth the 3 points.

We now move on to face Dundee in the cup midweek and hopefully we can get another result to keep the momentum going. Let's hope we can also see Mohamed Chalali finish his deal and get a start and possibly  goal.

Must Win Game Against Caley Thistle

The Dons have now played four SPL games this season earning only one point and no goals. Today's visitors to Pittodrie are Caley Thistle and this really is a must win game for Craig Browns men. I along with every other Dons fan would like to see 3 points secured and the first goal of the season scored. On a good note there has been some positive performances from certain players but a severe lack of clinical finishing in front of goal although we have hit the woodwork on a number of occasions.

Dons manager Craig Brown has been told he can still add to his squad before the transfer window closes which is much needed to help the Dons cause. The Dons are carrying on negotiations with Algerian striker Mohamed Chalali and hope to have a deal worked out with the striker pretty soon. The amount of restrictions will mean he won't be available to play in the Caley thistle game but could feature against Dundee.

According to Pa Broon he will make eight signings in total which means we should see Chalali and one other player arive before the window closes, hopefully another striker. Maceo Rigters is still at the club but he also has offers from Australia so may not sign for the Dons but we will just have to wait and see. In other news Peter Pawlett is very unlikely to play in todays game after picking up a knock in the Aberdeenshire evening express cup but let's hope he's back next week.

The last thing I'd like to say today is pull your sark sleeves up today lads, get the 3 points and let's get our season started. COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!

Maceo Rigters Is Newest Trialist At Todders!!

Maceo Rigters is the latest trialist to join the Dons at Pittodrie. The former Dutch under 21 internationalist is training with the Dons this week and it is understood that Craig Brown is set to make a decision in the next 24 hours about offering the striker a contract.

With the first three SPL games gone and still no goals something definitely has to be done to correct the problem. Let's take a quick look at what we actually have at the moment. We have Scott Vernon who had a good season last year but struggled towards the end with a hernia. We have Darren Mackie who has slowed down ten fold and now can't offer us the speed he once did. There is also big Josh Magennis, Michael Paton and even Mitch Megginson. All of the younger lads have great potential but without game time it will be hard for them to improve. Big Josh scored earlier today along with Ryan Jack both at under 21 level so let's hope that gives them some confidence.

Getting back to Rigters, he is of course a striker from Holland who has played Premiership football and has been capped a number of times for the under 21 side. Rigters was the top scorer in the 2007 under 21 Euro Championships with 4 goals and helped Holland go on to win the tournament. The striker has been about a few clubs in his career and gained quite alot of experience, unfortunately he has picked up a few injuries which has seen him sidelined along the way.

Maceo now plays for Willem 11 in Holland but has played for Blackburn Rovers, Norwich City and had a few other loan spells after starting his career in Holland. I'm sure all of you Dons fans who have watched the video I posted will agree he could be a good asset to the club if he can stay fit and get a regular run in the side. We desperately need a new face in the Dons attack so if he signs let's hope he gets stuck in and gets a goal against the Jambos on Saturday.

I'll keep you all posted with all of the updates over the next few days and through out the rest of the season. I have noticed that all you guys have been reading my articles but let's have some more comments and followers for my blog please.

Aberdeen v Celtic Match Report

Compared to the Aberdeen team of last season who received constant thrashings from Celtic, this was a much improved performance. The Dons were still without Chris Clarke, Fraser Fyvie and Youll Mawene but looked very comfortable defensively. Rory McArdle lined up in the defence with big Andy Considine, Kari Arnason and captain Ricky Foster. In goal for the dons was Colombian keeper David Gonzalez who looked confident and assured. He had quite a few good saves and read the game well and he also showed a great bit of skill turning Stakes in the box. We haven't really seen him tested yet but I think he will help the Dons defence stay calm.

Although the Dons defence was a makeshift one they coped extremely well with any pressure Celtic had to throw at them. The one goal didn't come from Celtic until the 73rd minute which shows a huge improvement to last season. The Aberdeen midfield consisted of ex Coventry player Issac Osbourne, Rob Milsom, Peter Pawlett and Big Josh Magennis. The midfield also showed some good defensive traits and the odd flash of creative flair but not quite enough to produce any goals.

The few chance the Dons did have showed that we are more than capable of competing, I think now is the time for manager Craig Brown to demand money for a creative front man. With a little bit of something going forward we could have sneaked three points off of Celtic today.

Carrying on the positive note,a great performance from Pawlett along with comfortable contributions from Low and megginson when they came off the bench were encouraging. Pawlett did have to go off but let's hope it's not to serious because he can help alot with the creativity if he can stay fit. It is nice to see a wide  range off young talent coming through for the Dons but we need to keep them fit and not pile to much pressure on them.

I won't say anything bad about the performance today because I thought in general that every player had a descent game. Slightly to much giving the ball away and a lack of creativity can be solved with one morale boosting signing. We have a good backbone and a descent enough squad to challenge for Europe but we need to hit the goal trail soon to kick start our season.

Aberdeen v Celtic Preview

The Dons have had a very slow start to the season but let's hope they wake up in time for tomorrow against Celtic. I was at todders for the first match with my son and defensively we looked pretty solid, but against the buddies last week we were extremely poor. With two matches played and one point gained the dons really need to show some more creativity.

Clarke and Fyvie should both hopefully be fit for the visit of Celtic tomorrow but french defender Youll Mawene looks as though he will not make it. I think the Dons need to prove to the fans that they want to win games and get there season kick started. If we can stay solid at the back and try to pass the ball about we will make chances and as long as we can make chances all three points are always available.

It will be a tough game against a team who embarrassed us last season but we need to put it right if we have any intention to play in Europe next season. I think we will definitely see what David Gonzalez is made of tomorrow as he has literally had nothing to do yet, so let's hope he's up to the job.

The only other thing I would like to say is COME ON YOU REDS!!!!

Dons Robbed By Referee!!

Aberdeen kicked off there SPL season against St Johnstone with a 0-0 draw. The Dons dominated from the start with all of the new signings playing well and the Dons goal never looked under any pressure. Aberdeen had quite a few good chances but were constantly held back by the referee. Every free kick we tried to take quickly was pulled back, we were very rarely aloud the advantage rule and the decision to send Ryan Jack off was a disgrace.

Watching the game from the lower deck of the Dick Donald stand I felt that the Dons should have won the game easily. Fraser Fyvie hit the post, Enkilmen fumbled the ball on a number of occasions and captain Ricky Foster had a couple of good long range efforts which went close. Although we never managed to score any goals the Dons looked a solid outfit all over the pitch winning most of the 50-50 balls along with some good passing and off the ball movement.

Aberdeen new boy Kari Arnason came on in the second half and seemed to slot right in to the side distributing the ball well and getting in to good positions to receive it to. Young Josh Magennis also came on and had a good chance but managed to pull his shot wide of the post. All in all the Dons looked comfortable and with a bit more match practice I think they will have a good season. I still think Brown needs to bring in one more striker before the transfer window closes but otherwise I am very happy with the new look team.

New Season Only Days Away

With the kick off of the new season on Saturday against St Johnstone comes a fresh hope for Aberdeen FC and all of the red army. In previous seasons we have stumbled against lower opposition and been bullied in to defeat but after watching the new signings coming in and the so called stars leaving I think this is our season to shine. Six new signings in total are now on board including Isac Osbourne, Youll Mawene, David Gonzalez, Kari Arnason, Chris Clarke and joining the Dons tonight is ex Blackburn Rovers keeper Jason Brown.

The main thing I think Craig and Archie still need to bring in is a clinical striker, I know this will be difficult on our budget but we have been able to bring in some good players so far and with Browns connection I'm sure he will get a descent striker before the transfer window closes. Once the SPL campaign kicks of the new look Dons team are going to be looking to make an impression from the start and it's vital we pick up every point possible in the early games. If we can maintain good form European football is well within our reach.

Pre-season saw us perform well in Germany and come away with out a win but as the fitness improved we started to dominate the lower league opponents which should be expected. The culmination of our pre-season came last night against Spanish giants Villa Real in a game which did the red army proud. The Dons showed some good composure on the ball and dealt well with the fluent passing motion of a team who are champions league regulars, our defence stood solid apart from a great goal from Rossi but all in all the signs were very encouraging. The Dons even managed to come close to grabbing a goal of there own on a number of occasions and I'm sure they will come thick and fast when the season starts.

The last thing I have to say to all my fellow red army members is I hope you all turn out in force on Saturday and let's get behind our team. This is the start of a new era for the Dons and one I will be proud to part of.

A Fluent And Dominant Performance

The Dons look great this afternoon against lower league Forfar Athletic with some excellent movement and passing. The team lined up in a 3-4-3 formation with big Andy considine as the stand in captain with Ricky Foster not being risked. Aberdeen took hold of the reins right from the off and created an abundance of chances for the travelling fans . The Dons finally ran out 0-3 but it could have easily been 7 or 8 but with Villa Real on tuesday night and the start of the SPL campaign next week this was overall impressive performance to help build morale.

If the Dons can keep the momentum going in to the Villa Real game and come away with a descent result but more importantly a good performance i'm confident we will start the season by clinching all three points. It was nice to see big Rob Milsom grabbing a goal tonight as he has been brilliant in the heart of the Dons midfield all pre-season. The other two goals came from big Scott Vernon and the ever impressive Ryan Jack.

All in all I think all of the red army can look forward to a better season and perhaps even some cup success this season.

Arnason Becomes A Don

Kari Arnason has now agreed to become Aberdeen's fifth major signing of the closed season. The defensive midfield player impressed in the two games he played in for the Dons against both Deveron Vale and Inverurie Locos. In both games he seemed comfortable on the ball and knew where and when to play the right pass along with a clinical finish against Inverurie to seal the deal.

The Icelandic international midfielder wasn't involved in today's game against Forfar Athletic as he has gone back down south to pack up and come back to Aberdeen. Kari will complete the move on Monday following a medical and will be available for selection against Villa Real on Tuesday night and more importantly against St Johnstone at the start of the new SPL season next week.

In my opinion Kari will be an excellent addition to the squad and will give us extra option in midfield and also at the back. The only thing Craig Brown needs now is another goal keeper and one more attacker to boost competition for places. All in all I am very optimistic looking ahead to the new season.

Looking Ahead To Next Season

Aberdeen have had a dreadfull season with some shocking league results and more cup upset. As a life time Dons fan I have seen some great results over the years and have even seen Aberdeen lift some trophies. If we can do some sensible business in the summer and commit some of our key players to long term deals we should easily be competing for europe next season.

Some might say I am a real optimist but I think we have some quality young players coming through and quite a few players

All The Latest Transfer News And Gossip

Good morning to all of the Red Army. Today I'm going to take a look at what's been going on at Todders so far in the closed season. So far we have made 4 new signings which I strongly believe will help bolster the squad in our hunt for European qualification this season.

In my opinion and I'm sure every other Dons fan would agree that to many school boy errors cost us at the back last season. With the return of Ricky Foster and the signing of big center back Youll Mawene I'm sure our defence will be alot more solid this term. There has also been some good news in the Dons midfield with the return of long term injuries Fraser Fyvie, Yoann Folly and Peter Pawlett. New signings to the midfield include the return of former dons player Chris Clarke, Isac Osbourne and with Rob Milsolm signing a new deal our midfield is looking pretty solid.

We have finally got rid of Chris Maguire to derby for 400k but no replacements have been brought in as yet. I personally would like to see young Josh Magennis given a run in the side as he has no fear and is willing to get stuck right in. The only other signing we have made so far this season is bringing big David Gonzalez in on loan from Manchester City to cover for Jamie Langfield who is out until October following a seizure.

Our first pre-season match has come and gone with a 1-3 win at glebe park against Brechin which saw a team mostly made up of trialists. The only trialist to score in that game was bengondo but there has been no news about the big Cameroon striker being offered a contract as yet.

With the dons flying out to Holland yesterday for there training camp the pre-season is now in full swing. Big games against Bochum and Borussia Monchengladbach will be the main tests for this new look Dons side before some local friendlies and then a glamour tie against Villa Real for Darren Mackies testimonial. I think we stand a good chance of finishing in the top 4 this season and a return to European football next season.

I will keep you all up to date with any new transfer news over the coming weeks and lets get all of the red army behind the Dons this season and bring back some glory to a proud Scottish club.

Progress So far this Summer

Let's take a look at the steps that have been made so far this summer to rebuild a dons side in great need of change. At the end of last season we could all see the changes needed but what has been done?. Well we've signed Rob Milsolm on a 2 year deal which is a great boost to the Dons midfield. We have also added big centre back Youl Mawene who will hopefully help sort out the defensive choas of last season.
We have also had a clear out of alot of the players who weren't committed to the red shirt. Saying that I think it was a mistake to get rid of derek young who was Aberdeen fc through and through with a good work rate on the pitch.
Gavin Rae is also a potential target but with Charlton Athletic also interested it's likely the bigger pay packet will keep him south of the border. The only other real transfer gossip we have has is the rumours of Russel Anderson knocking back a contract and the Spaniard Andoitz Galdos Gabas who was a product of the Athletic Bilbao youth set up now playing in the second division.
I still feel we need at least a midfielder another attacker and possibly a left back but only time will tell.

A Look Ahead To The New Season.

Hi to all of my followers, I havn't been around for a while as my wife has been ill, but I'm back and ready for the new season to start.
For all of us Aberdeen fans the 2010/2011 season is one I'm sure we would all rather forget. with that said we should stay optimistic and look ahead to the new season. In my view alot of the pre-madonas have now left and I hope there slots will be filled with men who are willing to fight for the right to dawn the legendary red shirt.
We have some good young kids at the club just now including Ryan Jack, Frazer Fyvie who was out most of last season, Jack grimmer and many more. We have also manages to gain the signature of Rob Milsolm who proved he is a battler in midfield wich is something our club has lacked for a while. I'm also very happy about jamie Langfield signing a new deal with us as he saved us on countless occasions last season. I'd just like to take a minute to say get well soon to Jamie after his seasure and all the best to his family.
I'm sure Craig and Archie will bring some success back to Pittodrie next season but we do need to bring in some experienced players to help the young lads through. If Stewart Milne and the board allow the management the money for maguire and lets face it the money for foster along with a bit extra i'm confident we can get in some descent players.
Well folks i'll write off for now but i'll be on with my comments to keep you all up to date right through the season so stay tuned.

Cheers
Big Mac
