Transfer Deadline Day Is Here!!!!!
Craig Brown and Archie Knox have now had all of the summer transfer window to improve Aberdeen FC for the new season. So far we have seen a number of players leave including Derek Young who I personally think should still be a Dons Player. We have now confirmed the signings of Youll Mawene, Chris Clarke, Issac Osbourne, Kari Arnasson, David Gonzalez, Jason Brown and the newest transfer is Mohamed Chalali.
Now I'll have a look at these players individually and cast my thoughts, let's start from the top. Youll Mawene has had a stop start career so far since joining the Dons as he keeps picking up injuries. When he has played he has looked quite assured apart from the odd mistake but in certain games ( Caley Thistle ) his lack of speed definitely showed. All in all though I think he will be a positive role model to Clark Robertson and some of the other young defenders.
Chris Clarke is a player we all knew before as he was part of the last Aberdeen team to qualify for Europe under Jimmy Calderwood. After a long spell at Plymouth Argyle the midfielder has come back to Todders for a second spell. So far he has only managed one first team start which came against Dundee in the cup which I attended. During the match his first touch seemed lacking and he seemed to have a general lack of fitness. I'm sure if he can stay injury free for a spell he'll be a valuable player for us this season.
Issac Osbourne has been a great signing so far for the Dons. He has kept fit and off the treatment table and has already started to capture a spot in the first team for him self. All the games I have watched Issac in so far he has been the first one in to every tackle, used the ball well and has seemed a very accomplished player in the middle of the park. The Dons have been missing a middle man with this kind of grit for many season now but I'm think we may have found one in Issac.
Kari Arnasson is the next Don to speak about. The Icelandic midfielder/ defender has been superb since joining the Dons and his experience definitely shows on the pitch. He is good on the ball and can pick out some great passes during the game. He has also hit the woodwork and went close to scoring a number of times so far in the SPL and as we seen in the pre-season he is more than capable of scoring goals as well. Although he is a great player I feel the Dons will struggle to hold on to him after his year contract unless we qualify for Europe.
Former Manchester City keeper David Gonzalez was the man brought in to cover as number 1 for Jamie Langfield who is now back in full training . Gonzalez hasn't really had to much to do and hasn't had any chance with the majority of the goals. Although saying that his blunder at Ibrox last Sunday was one I'm sure he'll try to forget. He has played well in most of the matches I've watched him in but he is another player who is only here to sell him self to other clubs. All in all he is a very talented keeper and I'm sure he will do a good job in his 6 months for the Dons.
The other goal keeper we have acquired is Welsh International Jason Brown. The ex Blackburn Rovers keeper has been froze out so far due to Gonzalez but has performed very well in the matches he has played in. He did have a couple of games in the pre-season where kept clean sheets and I also watched at Pittodrie in the cup against Dundee. In that match he was very vocal and organised the defence well and was very comfortable with handling and stopping shots. I think we have signed a great goal keeping Brown and i think he will definitely challenge for the number 1 jersey.
The last of our summer signings is Algerian under 23 captain Mohamed Chalali. We haven't seen to much of the striker as yet but I watched him on his debut against Dundee. He looked the part when he came off the bench making good runs and showing good bits of skill. He almost grabbed a debut goal as well with a superb volley which just dipped over the bar. I think once he is up to full match fitness and Craig brown gives him a full game he will score goals for the club and also create allot of goals toWe are now on transfer deadline day and one more striker is a must for Dons manager Craig Brown. There was talk of American International Eddie Johnson but the deal appears to have disappeared. The Dons have also been linked with a number of other strikers so it will be interesting to see who will be brought in on the last day. I think we will see at least one more player join the club as Shaughnessy and Low have gone on loan to Forfar and there is talk of Michael Paton also being offered to first division sides.
I always love the last day of the transfer season as there is always a chance that we may bring in someone who can help restore Aberdeen back to there full Glory. Well I guess we can always live in hope ( LOL ). I am confident that the Dons can still turn there season round and climb the table but a last minute striker could help things move allot faster.
